Searching for some dream home ideas?
Whether you are looking to renovate your fixer upper or add more custom touches to your new home, the possibilities are endless. When you’re starting to think about recreating your dream home, ideas can be found in the most unexpected places. From your lifestyle choices, to the music you prefer, and even your personality type can give you clues as to where to look for inspiration in choosing to diy and recreate your dream home.
This may be one of those, “uh duh! Moments,” to you. But it is worth mentioning anyway because we are human and as humans we forget that we are delightfully flawed creatures who can sometimes forget the most obvious things even when they are right in front of our noses. The truth is, we all need a gentle reminder every now and again to keep us honest and bring us back down to Earth whenever we space out. 😉
Sick of looking at your ugly house? Let’s Fix that!
1- On TV:
As you’re channel surfing in between the commercials on TV, see if you notice the amount of homes that are being featured. Now that it’s on your radar, you’ll begin to see just how common it is to see the types of homes being shown to you as a viewer when you’re aimlessly flipping through the channels. There are just an endless number of shows, not to mention, ads featuring homes to you because they are trying to show you what it is to live the good life in the nice homes.
- HGTV: I may be dating myself here but whatevs, it’s to make a good point. Before I became a mom and before Instagram and #netflixandchill was a thing, these were some of my favorite shows to watch for some DIY inspo: property brothers, fixer upper, property virgins, design start, etc.
- DIY Network: You know you’re an adult when you prefer to spend your night staying in while watching shows like kitchen crashers, bath crashers, & sweat equity, I Want That, etc. instead of going out and spending money aimlessly. Can we say introvert? 😉
- MTV Unplugged At Home Music videos: You may not even realize that your favorite genre of music can have an effect on your home preferences too. Are you into classical or what about jazz? Not your cup of tea? Maybe a little bit of country, a side of rap, a dash of hip hop, a sprinkle of pop, or any other kind of alternatives in between, the type of music you listen to can have a huge influence on your dream home ideas too. Take us for example, my husband moonlights as a drummer. Therefore we need a basement with lots of space in between us and our neighbors so that we won’t disrupt the people in our neighborhood.
- TV shows: particularly reality tv shows that feature the homes and lifestyles of the rich and famous celebrities. Whether or not you’re a fan of the show, you gotta admit it. Those people really do live in some pretty gorgeous houses. Ever wonder how the people on that show, Friends! Can afford to live in such a posh apartment in Manhattan, New York? Only on television!
2- In Reading Materials: Books, Catalogs, Magazines, etc.
The only times that I can remember flipping through magazines are in a waiting room of my doctor’s office, in a grocery store check out line, or at the library. Whether or not you flipping through them just to pass time, you gotta admit that they are chock full of spectacular views of gorgeous albeit expensive looking homes. And that is precisely where you would likely find exactly what your dream home ideas are too!

Find out why people tend to flock there and see if there is anything there that you find captivating. If you notice that anytime you go to that venue and it’s that serene feeling you happen to get whenever you visit those places, then it may be worth it for you to consider recreating that same look or vibe within your own space too.

That is why the house was listed on the MLS for such a short amount of time. You want to make note of those selling features, check out the pictures, as well as the descriptions to see what you’d like to add to your very own dream home ideas too before you start renovating your home.
